ST CLARES SCHOOL – Our links
School Library
We have two weekly timeslots at St Clare’s School Library. We take a small group of children over to explore the books and meet some of the teachers. Inside the library the children can access the book both independently and with an adult. They have some free time to explore and then before leaving we all sit together to read a story as a group.
The children enjoy their trips to the school library and this helps to strengthen our links with the school and encourages a smooth transition to school for our leavers as they are already familiar with the environment.
OPAL
St Clare’s EYFS team invite us over to join in with many of their activities and explore their new equipment. We have recently been taking a group of school leavers over to the school to explore their new OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) area. These sessions are spread throughout the week to ensure all children can access these. We explored the mud kitchen, sand pit, gym, tyre swing, climbing wall, scooters and bikes. The nursery met some of their family members, sisters and brothers and their friends that used to attend the nursery. We are going to continue having weekly sessions so children can grow their confidence, skills and strengthen the links between school and nursery.
School Transitions
As the children prepare for their move to school, we encourage them to develop their confidence, independence and school readiness through positive experiences and a supportive environment. Children develop the skills they have learnt throughout their nursery journey to propel them into their next stage of learning. We work closely with families and local schools to ensure the transition is smooth, supportive and positive for each child.
For the children that will be attending St Clare’s Primary School, we have additional story times in the Reception Class, the class teachers come over to visit the children and the staff provide a graduation to celebrate the children’s success at nursery.
PTA
A number of staff are on the PTA (Friends of St Clare’s) where we help to raise money for the both the school and nursery. The PTA hold events throughout the year which the staff will help out with. The money raised helps to fund extra-curricular activities, resources and equipment that the budgets do not cover. Every year we use some of this money to buy books for Christmas presents and World Book Day along with a keepsake bear for each child at Graduation.
