Prayer and Celebration of the Word at St Clare's

At St Clare's, we follow a simple and meaningful four-part structure for prayer and worship:

1. Gather

This is the moment we come together as a community. We pause, become still, light a candle or focus on a symbol, and remind ourselves that we are in God’s presence. Gathering helps us leave distractions behind and prepare our hearts.

2. Word

We listen to God’s Word, usually through a reading from the Bible, often the Gospel. This is the heart of our worship. We reflect on what God is saying to us through the message.

3. Response

After listening, we respond. This may be through prayer, quiet reflection, discussion, singing, or an action. We think about how the message speaks to us personally and as a community.

4. Mission

Worship does not end when we leave the room. In this final part, we consider how we will live out the message in our daily lives. We are sent out with a purpose — to act with love, kindness, forgiveness, courage, or service.

Gospel to Life and Life to Gospel

We always move from Gospel to life and life to Gospel:

  • Gospel to Life – We ask: What is Jesus teaching us? How does this message guide the way we live today?
  • Life to Gospel – We also reflect on our own experiences and bring them to the Gospel. We ask: Where do we see this message in our lives? How can the Gospel help us understand and respond to our experiences?

This approach helps ensure that worship is not just something we listen to — it is something we live.
