Kingfishers Year 1/2

Welcome to Kingfisher Class

We are a class of 30 year 1 and 2 pupils. Our teacher is Mrs O’Brien. We are supported by Miss Bailey and Miss Mai.

During the autumn term our topic will be 'School Days' which will be a history-based topic. In science, we will be focusing on 'Everyday Materials'.

Our phonics scheme is called ‘My Letters and Sounds’. We will be focusing on learning Phase 5 sounds this term. The children will bring home a phonics book to practise their sounds and reading at home. This book should be brought to school every day in their school book bag. (Please do not send in rucksacks as we do not have enough room to store them). Please encourage your child to read every day. Little and often is best. Clacton has a wonderful library so please encourage your child to sign up and borrow books to read.

For those children who are confident and fluent with their phonics, they will be tested using our Salford Reading Assessment. These children will bring home colour-banded books. These will be changed once the book has been completed as these are slightly longer texts.

Please make sure that children have their own water bottles that they can bring to school daily. This must contain water, not juice or squash. Please make sure that the bottle is named.

Our PE days will be on Tuesdays. Please make sure all jewellery is removed. Our school library session is on Friday. Please return books on this day so that they can be exchanged.

In September, children are expected to be in their summer uniform.  This will change after the half term in October when winter uniform should be worn. Please see the uniform list for any queries you have. Please label all clothes clearly with the children's names.

Please ensure all long hair is tied up fully as per our uniform policy and any bows are small and in our school uniform colours.

Class Dojo is our main point of contact. We will update this platform regularly. If you ever have any non-urgent questions or queries, please send a message through this platform and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. Any urgent messages should be reported through the school office. If someone different is collecting your child from school, please inform the school office as we are unable to allow children to leave if we are not notified. Thank you for your support.

If you have any questions about the new term and new class, please speak to us. We are looking forward to a fun (and hopefully sunny) term!
