Franciscan Spirituality

Gospel to life, life to Gospel.
Our Franciscan Spirituality
St Clare’s was founded by Franciscan Sisters, and our Franciscan heritage continues to shape the life and values of our school today.
St Francis of Assisi and St Clare of Assisi sought to follow Jesus through lives of prayer, simplicity, humility and service. They believed in treating every person with dignity, caring especially for those who were poor or vulnerable, living peacefully with others and recognising the beauty of God in creation.
St Francis is remembered particularly for his love of peace, his care for the poor and his deep respect for the natural world. His example encourages us to live simply, to be grateful for what we have and to care for our common home.
St Clare shared this same commitment to Christ. She lived a life of prayer, courage, humility and service, showing that true strength comes from faith and from putting God and others before ourselves. Her example reminds us to be compassionate, faithful and courageous in the way we live.
At St Clare’s, our Franciscan spirituality can be seen in the way we encourage children to show love, compassion, respect, inclusion and service. It is reflected in our care for God’s creation, our support for those in need, our commitment to peace and reconciliation, and our belief that every person is precious in God’s eyes.

Our Franciscan heritage helps us to live out our Mission Statement:
“With Jesus, we learn to love and love to learn.”
It inspires us to help our children become people who are grateful, compassionate, peaceful and ready to use their gifts in the service of others.
