Our Intent

In Art and Design, St. Clare’s school aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
• Become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
• Evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
• Know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.

Implementation

Through weekly Art lessons, children develop skills in drawing and painting, printing, collage, and sculpture, and are given the opportunity to explore and evaluate different creative ideas.

Children will be taught how to follow a creative process through; from gathering ideas and inspiration, to planning and production, and finally, evaluation.

Children will be introduced to a range of works and develop knowledge of the styles and vocabulary used by other artists. 

Planned “Art days” are held each term to give children the opportunity to explore new areas of Art. They are given the freedom to be expressive and creative and apply new skills.

Impact

• Children are skilled in how to create a piece of effective art
• Children know and understand different processes and they can talk about what they have used in their work and evaluate their final piece
• At St Clare’s, we aspire for every child to have a love of art and design and feel proud of what they can achieve.
