School's History
BACKGROUND OF THE SCHOOL
Negotiations to build St. Clare's Roman Catholic Primary School were begun in October 1966
by the Franciscan Sisters who wished to replace their existing private School with a Voluntary
Aided one. Subsequently, this School was opened in January 1970. It serves the educational
needs of the Catholic children in the Parish of Clacton and subject to places being available
will accept children from outside our Parish who reside in Brightlingsea, Great Bentley,
Frinton, Walton, Thorpe, Kirby and Point Clear.
On September 1st 1993, St. Clare's was incorporated as a Grant Maintained School. On
September 1st 1999, St. Clare’s returned to Voluntary Aided Status.
With effect from September 1st 2013, St. Clare’s Catholic School converted to an Academy.
The existing building stands in spacious playing fields and accommodates twelve classrooms. There is a large assembly hall, music room, resource room, library,
studio, purpose built computer suite and kitchen.
